Designated as an eligible facility under the Miyagi Prefecture Tech Startup Location Promotion Incentive Grant — Advancing from R&D to Mass Production and Supply
NanoFrontier Co., Ltd. (Head Office: Sendai, Miyagi; Representative Director: Seiya Inoue; hereinafter “NanoFrontier”) is preparing to open a dedicated “Mass-Production Manufacturing Room” for nanoparticles within a room at the Material Solutions Center (MaSC), located on Tohoku University’s Katahira Campus. This initiative has been designated as an eligible facility under the Miyagi Prefecture Tech Startup Location Promotion Incentive Grant, a program that supports tech startups newly establishing factories or similar facilities within the prefecture.
The plan calls for continuing R&D in the existing laboratory within the same center, while the newly established mass-production manufacturing room will be dedicated to mass production and quality control.
Background of the Designation
Nanoparticles are foundational materials with anticipated industrial applications across a wide range of fields, including energy, electronic materials, and pharmaceuticals. Building on nanoparticle synthesis technologies developed at Tohoku University over more than 30 years, NanoFrontier has constructed an automated R&D pipeline that integrates synthesis simulation, AI, and robotic evaluation, and has been engaged in both research and development and contract manufacturing.
As the business has progressed, establishing a stable supply system and quality assurance framework for partner companies has become the next key challenge. The mass-production manufacturing room now being prepared will serve as the company’s first dedicated space for both mass production (manufacturing) of nanoparticles and quality control (analysis) of manufactured particles — forming the cornerstone of NanoFrontier’s transition from the R&D phase to the mass-production and supply phase.
By locating the mass-production function within the same Material Solutions Center (MaSC) as the company’s headquarters and R&D base, NanoFrontier aims to enable close coordination between R&D, manufacturing, and quality control under one roof, thereby shortening lead times from development to delivery.

Future Plans
In conjunction with the launch of the mass-production manufacturing room, NanoFrontier plans to recruit personnel responsible for manufacturing and quality control, and to expand its operational structure in a phased manner. Through the establishment of a mass-production system, the company aims to enhance its supply capacity for collaborative research and contract manufacturing partners, while also contributing to job creation and industrial clustering in Sendai and Miyagi, leveraging technology originating from Tohoku University.

About the Miyagi Prefecture Tech Startup Location Promotion Incentive Grant
This incentive grant is provided by Miyagi Prefecture to tech startups — including those originating from Tohoku University — that are expected to generate synergies with local manufacturing companies in the prefecture. It is designed to reduce the financial burden associated with capital investment, rental costs, and new hiring for factories or similar facilities newly established within the prefecture. Eligibility requirements include being a supported entity of the “Tech Startup Support Consortium Miyagi” (Techsta Miyagi), having received investment from a venture capital firm or similar entity that is a member of Techsta Miyagi, and conducting business with a technology development component based on research in the natural sciences.
