NanoFrontier Representative Director Seiya Inoue Receives Minister for Internal Affairs and Communications Encouragement Award

NanoFrontier Co., Ltd. (Head Office: Sendai, Miyagi; Representative Director: Seiya Inoue; hereinafter “NanoFrontier”) is pleased to announce that Representative Director Seiya Inoue has received the Minister for Internal Affairs and Communications Encouragement Award at “JCI JAPAN TOYP 2026 (the 40th Ten Outstanding Young Persons of Japan),” hosted by the Japan Junior Chamber Inc., a public interest incorporated association.

Award ceremony

Background of the Award

JCI JAPAN TOYP is a prestigious recognition program that the Japan Junior Chamber Inc. has conducted since 1987. It selects outstanding young people from across Japan who have made a sustained and significant impact on society across a wide range of fields, including science and technology, business, the environment, and international exchange. This year marks the program’s 40th edition.

Inoue was recognized for his work built upon proprietary nanoparticle technologies accumulated over more than 30 years at Tohoku University, including the following initiatives:

  • Rapid detection of PFAS water contamination
  • Long-duration battery materials that do not rely on rare metals
  • High-thermal-conductivity nanofluids that enable energy savings in data centers

These represent meaningful responses to critical social challenges in the fields of environment, energy, and information infrastructure.

He was also recognized for establishing a research and development automation pipeline that integrates AI agents, simulation, and robotics—demonstrating a new model of industry-academia collaboration as a Tohoku University–born startup. Furthermore, against the backdrop of Miyagi Prefecture ranking first nationally for two consecutive years (2023 and 2024) in net outmigration to the Tokyo metropolitan area, his contributions to regional revitalization through job creation for AI engineers and scientists in Sendai and attracting investment to the region were cited as key factors leading to the Minister for Internal Affairs and Communications Encouragement Award.

Comment from the Representative Director

Representative Director Seiya Inoue

“I am deeply honored to receive the prestigious Minister for Internal Affairs and Communications Encouragement Award. What we are striving toward is to solve environmental and energy challenges through the power of advanced nanomaterial technologies, and to bring those results from Sendai and Miyagi to the world. Miyagi Prefecture faces the harsh reality of ranking first nationally for two consecutive years in net outmigration to the Tokyo metropolitan area. I believe that NanoFrontier’s work to translate Tohoku University’s research outcomes into real-world applications—and to continuously create opportunities for AI engineers and scientists to thrive in Sendai—is one answer to reversing that trend. Encouraged by this award, we will press forward in establishing a new model of challenging the world from the regions of Japan.”
